The school year in Ireland is approximately 9 months long, from September to June. It is divided into 3 terms;
Autumn: September to December Spring: January to March/April Summer: March/April to June
The principal entry date is September but some schools will accept students at the start of any term. A student may decide to attend for one or two terms only, or for the full academic year. In the case of boarding schools however, students are usually accepted for the full year only. |
There are two annual school breaks, at Christmas and Easter, of approximately two weeks each. During the first and second term there is also a mid-term break which is usually a week long.
Many international students return home during the school breaks but accommodation can be arranged for those who remain in Ireland. |
