Schools in Ireland follow a national curriculum set down by the Department of Education and all students follow the same courses and take the same state examinations regardless of the type of school they attend.
The Department of Education offers about 30 subjects on the national curriculum and most schools will offer between 15 and 20 of these subjects.
At Junior Certificate level students will usually take a minimum of 7 academic subjects and at Leaving Certificate level a minimum of 6. Subjects that students most frequently choose from are: |
